Frog has an impulse control issue. This is nothing new. There is a young lady that was in his class who was frankly a bully. She would call Frog stupid, and an idiot. She would push him and step on his hand when he was sitting on the floor. She would also yell at him. Occasionally he would retaliate. About once a year for the past few years there has been a big incident that has required parental involvement (fights ect.). Frog never started them without being provoked but he was absolutly involved. He would face his punishment and we would move on.
This year Frog was doing very good at avoiding the little bully. He would go the other way from her and he would play with his friends. We received a call from the Principal early in October saying Little Bully's mom had filed a restraining order on Frog because he had scratched her on the arm in PE. Now the PE teacher was watching and said it absolutly didn't happen, but according to the law we were going to have to take poor Frog to court and fight this thing.
Now my kids are my world, and when some lady tries to pick on them, I am not going to allow it, I am however going to try and find what is best for my kids. An amazing amount of restriction was being put on Frog due to this order and the fact the school was so small. The teachers and principal were doing everything in their power to make sure Frog and the Little Bully did not encounter each other, but there were still oportunities, and it was already proven Little Bully had no qualms about lying. J and I went to speak with a lawyer and based on what he learned from Little Bullys mom, we decided to change schools. Little Bully's mom was of the mind that if she lost the Restraining Order, she would file Sexual Harassment on Frog. I did not want to drag Big T through this stuff and the courts.
Frog and Monkey started their new school on Monday. They are making friends and enjoying it. My only complaint is that it isn't a charter school which means both of the boys are well ahead of their pears in class. We are working with the school trying to find a way to get them advanced or at least some extra work so they don't lose what they know. The kids are enjoying public school and the fact that there are more kids, school lunches, and school starts 30 minutes later. They also enjoy we are only 1/4 mile from the school so they can ride their bikes and walk to school.
So that has been the story of our life over the past month. It has been a trial, but we have emerged stronger because of it, and Frog will only be there for the rest of this year, then we are going to work on getting him in a charter high school.
